Your sewer lateral is the pipe that connects your property to the city sewer main.
It runs from your house — typically from a cleanout near the foundation or in the yard — underground to the public sewer main in the street. It’s your responsibility, not the city’s. If it clogs, collapses, or needs repair, the cost falls on you.
The sewer lateral is the line we most often camera inspect and jet. It’s also the line most likely to have root intrusion, since it runs through your yard near trees and landscaping, and it is often the oldest pipe on the property (many were installed when the house was built decades ago).
Most homeowners never think about their sewer lateral until it fails. A camera inspection gives you a baseline — you know what is in there, how it looks, and whether anything needs attention before it becomes an emergency.
