Pipe relining installs a new lining inside an existing damaged pipe without digging it up.
The process: a flexible liner soaked in resin is inserted into the pipe, inflated, and then cured (usually with UV light or steam) until it hardens into a new pipe within the old pipe. In theory, this rehabilitates a damaged pipe without excavation — no digging up the yard or breaking through concrete.
The appeal is obvious: no excavation, minimal disruption, lower cost than full pipe replacement. Pipe relining companies market it as a premium ‘no-dig’ solution, and in some specific situations, it works.
Our position: relining is often oversold as a permanent fix for pipes that need replacement. A relined pipe is now smaller in diameter than the original (the liner takes up space). If the host pipe continues to deteriorate, the liner can delaminate. And relining does not address the root cause of a pipe’s failure — it covers the symptom.
We do not do pipe relining. When we find a pipe that is at end of life, we tell you to get it replaced — not lined. We’d rather give you the honest answer than sell you a bandage.
