How Do I Know If I Need Jetting or Snaking?

How Do I Know If I Need Jetting or Snaking? — Answered by Sunburst Environmental, Metro Atlanta’s drain jetting specialists.

Snake it if it is a simple, one-time clog near the fixture. Jet it if it is recurring, widespread, or significant buildup.

Snaking is appropriate for: a toilet clog that is clearly at the toilet trap, a bathroom sink drain that is clogged with hair and soap right at the P-trap, a simple soft clog that a plumber can clear quickly. It’s fast, inexpensive, and works for straightforward clogs.

Jetting is appropriate for: any clog that is come back after snaking, slow drains throughout the house (main line issue), grease buildup in kitchen or restaurant lines, root intrusion in the sewer lateral, or any time a plumber has specifically recommended jetting.

The camera inspection is what removes the guessing. It shows us exactly what is causing the clog, where it is, and how significant the buildup is. That determines whether snaking would be sufficient or whether jetting is the right call.
