Yes — with the right pressure settings and a camera inspection first.
Cast iron pipes, common in homes built before the 1970s, can be jetted safely if they are structurally intact. Cast iron is actually quite durable — many cast iron pipes installed 50+ years ago are still functioning well. The issue is that cast iron corrodes over time, and corrosion thins the pipe wall.
The camera inspection is especially important with cast iron: we are looking for significant corrosion, pitting, scale buildup that is masking wall condition, and sections where the pipe wall looks compromised. If the cast iron looks solid, we jet it — typically at lower pressure than we’d use on PVC.
If the camera shows significant deterioration, we will tell you the pipe may be at end of life and that jetting carries risk. You can still make the call, but you will make it knowing what you are working with.
