How Long Does Hydro Jetting Take?

How Long Does Hydro Jetting Take? — Expert answers from Sunburst Environmental, Metro Atlanta’s drain jetting specialists.

Most residential hydro jetting jobs take 1–2 hours from start to finish.

That window includes the camera inspection (typically 30–45 minutes for a standard residential sewer lateral), the jetting itself (30–60 minutes for a typical residential blockage), and the post-jetting camera confirmation pass. We walk you through what we found at the start and show you the result at the end.

Factors that extend the timeline

Line length — a 150-foot sewer lateral takes longer to camera inspect and jet than a 60-foot run.

Blockage severity — dense root intrusion requires more passes and more specialized nozzle technique than a soft grease clog. Heavily scaled lines may require descaling passes before jetting is effective.

Access difficulty — cleanout access is fastest. Working through a toilet flange (removing and resetting the toilet) adds setup and teardown time. Limited or hard-to-reach access points add complexity.

Unexpected findings — if the camera reveals something that requires a different approach — a collapse, a severe offset, a section that needs assessment before we proceed — we stop and talk through it with you. This takes time, but it is the honest process.

Commercial jobs take longer

Commercial drain jetting — restaurants, apartment buildings, warehouses — typically runs 2–4 hours or more. Lines are longer, larger in diameter, and generally have more severe buildup. Restaurant lines caked with years of grease take more passes and more time to fully clear. We give commercial clients a time estimate based on the property when they book.

What happens during the job

We arrive, locate the cleanout, and set up the camera. You watch the monitor with us as we run the camera through the line — seeing the buildup, the blockage, and the pipe condition in real time. After the inspection, we set up the jetter and run it through the line. When we are done, we run the camera again and show you the result. Then we hand you the footage and answer any questions.
