No — hydro jetting does not require digging. It accesses the pipe through existing cleanout openings.
That’s one of the main advantages of hydro jetting over pipe repair: it is completely non-invasive to the surrounding property. We access the sewer line through the cleanout cap (a removable fitting installed for exactly this purpose) and run the jetting hose through the pipe without any excavation.
The only scenario where excavation might accompany a jetting job: if you do not have an accessible cleanout and we cannot access the line through a toilet or floor drain. In that case, a plumber would need to install a cleanout first — which involves minimal digging at that specific access point.
Pipe repair and replacement are the services that require digging — not jetting. If we camera inspect and find something that needs repair, we refer you to a plumber who can assess whether trenchless repair or excavation is the right approach.
