How to keep your drains clean after hydro jetting — and slow the rate of re-accumulation.
Hydro jetting restores your drain line to close to original interior diameter. What you do after determines how long that clean state lasts. The habits that caused the buildup in the first place will cause it again — but you can slow the rate significantly.
Kitchen drains
No grease, fat, or cooking oil down the drain — this is the single most impactful change. Let cooking fat solidify and throw it in the trash. Wipe pans with a paper towel before washing. Even small amounts of grease that make it into the drain accumulate over time.
Run hot water after washing dishes — helps carry residual grease and soap further through the line rather than letting it solidify close to the drain.
Drain strainer — catches food particles before they enter the pipe. Empty it after each use.
Bathroom drains
Hair catcher — a simple drain strainer that catches hair before it enters the pipe. The most effective single tool for preventing bathroom drain buildup. Available for $5–$15 at any hardware store.
Hot water after showers — helps move soap residue through the line rather than letting it accumulate on pipe walls.
For lines with root intrusion
Root intrusion will come back — jetting removes the roots inside the pipe, but the entry point (the crack or joint the roots found) remains. The regrowth rate depends on tree species and aggressiveness. We will give you an honest assessment of likely regrowth timeline based on what we found during the inspection.
Regular maintenance jetting on the appropriate schedule — before the roots re-grow to flow-blocking density — is more cost-effective than pipe repair for many homeowners.
Camera inspection as maintenance
A periodic camera inspection — even without jetting — tells you the current state of the pipe and how much buildup has accumulated since the last service. If the pipe looks clean, no jetting needed. If it shows significant buildup, jet before it causes a problem.
