The honest answer is different for every property. Jetting interval is determined by buildup rate, which depends on what goes into the pipes, the pipe material and diameter, and whether there are specific factors like root intrusion or heavy grease use. Here is a practical framework.
Residential homes — typical intervals
No specific issues, modern PVC pipes — a camera inspection every 3–5 years gives you a baseline. Jet when the camera shows significant buildup, not on a fixed schedule.
Older home with cast iron or clay pipes — inspect every 2–3 years. These materials accumulate scale and are more vulnerable to root intrusion. Jetting when needed based on what the camera shows.
Home with large trees near the sewer line — inspect annually. Root intrusion grows at the rate of the trees, and catching it at moderate stage (jetable) is far cheaper than waiting until the roots crack the pipe.
Recurring drain clogs — the clog frequency itself is the signal. If you are having the same drain snaked more than once a year, jetting is the appropriate response.

If you jet annually and the camera shows minimal buildup after 12 months, you can extend the interval. If you jet annually and the pipe already looks significantly built up, shorten the interval.
